Few issues have been as frustrating as the inability of our local governments to open a day-resource center for the homeless. It appears now that a solution may be at hand, but we have seen other “done deals” fall through.
And the day-resource center is just one part of the puzzle in addressing homelessness.
Our upcoming membership meeting, at the Goodman Community Center, will feature a four-expert panel that includes three endorsed Democratic elected officials:
- Dane County Supervisor Heidi Wegleitner
- Madison Alder Marsha Rummel
- Dean Loumos, Member, Madison Metropolitan School District Board and Executive Director, Housing Initiatives Inc.
- Linda Ketcham, Director, Madison-Area Urban Ministry and Chair, City-County Homeless Issues Committee
While the meeting will provide insights on homelessness, it is also designed to focus attention to this issue, and to make it clear that the issue is important to Democrats. We may follow up with resolutions or other actions. We hope to see you there.
